Beauty+Function

I was browsing through Inhabitat and came across this power plant in the Netherlands (pictured above). The architecture firm, Cie joined with artist Hugo Kaagman, to create this beautiful structure that serves as a power plant AND an ode to the history and community of the Dutch people, culture and history. The structure is clad in Delftware glazed tiles that are iconic to the Netherlands. I am so pleased to see a structure that is not only functional but also composes beauty and purpose. If you've ever driven by the power plant in  San Onofre, CA (or most power plants) you will understand the stark contrast between a gigantic concrete struture that is unnaturally emerging from the Earth and a structure that is so fitting in its place that it is hard to even recognize that it is a power plant.
