Feature Friday: Poseidon Undersea Resort, Fiji

The Poseidon Undersea Resort in Fiji has got to be one of the most enticing places in the world to stay. Of course, it will cost you a pretty penny, er make that a few pretty thousands. The resort is located on the private Mystery Island where guests can stay in one of the 24 beachfront villas or one of the 24 floating above-sea bungalows AND sub on down to sleep with the fish in of the 24 underwater rooms. Yes, that's right, stay in a underwater sub like room where large windows allow you to gaze out into the sea. The underwater resort will include a spa, gym, restaurant, and a chapel for under the sea weddings. Rates are 15k per person for one week so for two you'll be dropping 30k for one week. Rates include transport to the private island from Fiji's international airport, 4 nights in a luxury beach or over-water villa, two nights in an underwater suite, submarine rides, scuba lessons, wine tasting, a professionally photographed album of your stay, gourmet meals, and access to all equipment and activities offered at the resort. The resort website states that started taking reservations for their 2010 opening but I can't seem to find anything that says they are actually open yet. Has anyone stayed here? I'd love to see some non-computer animated pics.

The undersea resort is accessed by elevator and is pressure regulated to eliminate sea sickness and dizziness. The resort is located near a reef so that the shallow water still allows for plenty of natural light and prime sea life viewing.

Each room looks like a submarine-like pod and the large windows are created with the same secure acrylic that subs use. The special acrylic is made for optimum clarity, provding views of the reef to up to 200 ft.

Fiji has always been on top of my list for places I want to visit but now it's a matter of finding 15 grand... one day, right?
