Feature Friday: Gamirasu Cave Hotel, Cappadocia, Turkey

The Gamirasu Cave Hotel in Cappadocia Turkey is unlike any other. Located in an area where its inhabitants have lived for nearly 5 thousand years, this cave hotel dates back one thousand years to when it was once a Byzantine monastic retreat. In 1999, the Christian monastery was restored to become a 30 room cave hotel for backpakers, honeymooners and adventurers alike. Activities offered at the hotel include horse back riding, relaxing with a spa treatement, taking a Turkish cuisine course, learning about the agriculture in the community (the towns main source of income), yoga and massage therapy, observe the whirling Derivishes, or get married in the 13th Century Byzantine cave chapel.

Each of the 30 rooms vary from each other in shape, size and decor. The cave rooms were constructed from volcanic rock which keeps the rooms at a perfect temperature no matter the time of the year. Although the rooms may have been built a thousand years ago, modern amenities have been incorporated to make your stay comfortable. The hotel offers breakfast and dinner and uses organic and either homemade or locally grown/made ingredients.

This hotel may not be comprable to a five star hotel but how can you beat the experience of staying in a historically rich cave? ...okay, I am sure there are a lot of people who can think of places they'd rather go, but I think this is a pretty unique and once in a lifetime place to stay. I love all the little niches, arches, and organic feel that the cave hotel has. Some reviews were not fans of the decor but I actually like it. I am not saying I would decorate my own house in this manner but for the location and style of the hotel, I think it's quite perfect. What do you think? Would you want to vacation in a thousand year old cave? No Osama jokes please : )

Baby & Child Restoration Hardware

Maritime Iron Canopy Crib - the extra tall posts are fabulous on this crib

I have already fallen deeply in love with the new look of Restoration Hardware and now I am even more in love with them after discovering their baby and children's line, appropriately named, Baby and Child. In keeping with Restoration's new industrial/simplistic/distressed look and the mix of classically designed pieces, the baby and children's furniture is phenomenal! I have always thought there should be a more sophisticated line of furniture and bedding for children. Restoration hit the nail on the head by creating a refined line with a bit of whimsy and imagination. I am only wishing this place existed when I was a kid (although, my mom is probably glad or else I would have cost her a fortune)!
